In a surprise move, BUS HUS' latest effort, Necro Techno Vol. I, departs from their psychedelic hip-hop precedent to create an homage to the underground rave tapes of the '90's. This first entry of the series is brief and well-rounded with Five original songs and one gnarled remix. Leaning on the recording aesthetics used in Norwegian Black Metal, ‘Necro Techno’ makes use of lo-fi and archaic recording techniques which emphasizes the atmosphere over commercial clarity. In whole, all Decades-old instrumentation was recorded linearly into a Tascam Portastudio and directly onto cassette, AKA a Grey Tape.
This is not the release most were expecting. In recent years, BUS HUS have been debuting multiple cuts at live performances that feature obtuse verses over flipped classic country music. Instead, gritty electronic hardware-based grooves are presented. The album title gives notion to the EP's dark vibe. The records vary from shadowy overtones to foggy, deep bass. The title track is the album’s Goth Rave-Tape banger, while "Oscillator" and "Basement Clymaxx" hit heavy with Drum ‘n Bass, Acid Jock-Jam, and upbeat Electro thresholds. The single, "The Dutchess of Sussex" is a brooding Techno throwback aimed squarely at giving the American born actress-turned-British-royalty, Meghan Markle, a Techno-Noir tribute. It is stark, mysterious, and boundless with thunderous bass lines and euphoric synths.
